Training Policies

Registration, cancellation, safety, and participation policies for OSS courses and private training.

Effective date: August 3, 2026

A course listing, confirmation, quote, or signed agreement may include terms specific to that training. If those written terms conflict with this page, the more specific written terms control.

Registration and eligibility

A registration is confirmed after OSS accepts it and receives the required payment. The registrant must provide accurate contact information and meet the prerequisites, age limits, legal eligibility, required equipment, and conduct requirements stated in the course listing or confirmation.

Registration is personal unless OSS approves a participant substitution. A substitute must meet all course prerequisites and legal requirements.

Participant cancellations and transfers

  • 14 or more calendar days before the course: Request a refund, transfer to another scheduled date, or receive a course credit.
  • 7–13 calendar days before the course: Request one transfer to another scheduled date or a course credit. Cash refunds are not normally available.
  • Fewer than 7 calendar days before the course or a no-show: The registration is nonrefundable and nontransferable.

To request a change, contact OSS in writing with the participant name, course, date, and requested resolution.

OSS cancellations and schedule changes

If OSS cancels a course, the registrant may choose a full refund, transfer, or course credit. If OSS reschedules a course and the new date does not work, the registrant may choose a full refund or course credit.

Dates, locations, instructors, and course details may change when reasonably necessary for safety, weather, range access, enrollment, or operational requirements. OSS is not responsible for personal travel, lodging, ammunition, equipment, lost wages, or other participant expenses, except where required by law.

Safety and conduct

Training may involve firearms, physical exertion, medical skills, outdoor conditions, animals, vehicles, tools, or other inherently hazardous activities. Participants must follow all laws, safety rules, facility rules, and instructor directions. Participants must arrive legally eligible, properly equipped, sober, and able to participate safely.

OSS may pause an activity or remove a participant for unsafe conduct, impairment, harassment, failure to follow direction, or failure to meet stated legal or course requirements. A participant removed for these reasons is not entitled to a refund.

Course completion does not guarantee proficiency, certification, licensure, employment, legal compliance, or a particular outcome. Each participant remains responsible for continued practice, sound judgment, lawful conduct, and understanding the laws that apply to them.

Medical training

Medical courses and materials are educational. They do not replace professional medical diagnosis, treatment, emergency services, protocols, licensure, or direction from a qualified medical professional or medical control. In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service and act within your training, authority, and applicable law.
